Quote of the day

"I will not carry a gun, Frank. When I got thrown into this war I had a clear understanding with the Pentagon: no guns. I'll carry your books, I'll carry a torch, I'll carry a tune, I'll carry on, carry over, carry forward, Cary Grant, cash and carry, carry me back to Old Virginia, I'll even 'hari-kari' if you show me how, but I will not carry a gun!"

Medical Relief Aid

“Do all you can with what you have, in the time you have, in the place you are.” Nkosi Johnson, a Zulu boy, born into dire poverty while also being infected with AIDS, who died at 12 year old.
As you may know, I am currently working towards a medical degree in osteopathic medicine. After completing my course work at the Des Moines University – College of Osteopathic Medicine, I have spent the last year or so doing medical rounds at hospitals around the United States, including Colorado, Texas, South Carolina, New York City, and presently in Philadelphia. Although the work has been challenging, I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed it. I have been involved in procedures from putting in Foley Catheters to delivering babies. I am trying out just about all areas of medicine, and all of my experience and involvement is leading me towards a practice in pediatrics (although I haven’t decided for sure). So…I hope that I caught some of you up on what I have been doing and where I am headed.
I have chosen to take a leave of absence from medical school starting this August, and I will be doing eight months of volunteer work in Central and South America (Honduras and Bolivia), to do something I have always wanted to do. I have found programs in each country that are willing to take me as a student and include me in their communities. I am ecstatic about this opportunity and I wanted to let everyone know about my plans.
I will most likely be working with very poor, indigenous tribes and communities in these countries. I want to personally benefit from immersion into these cultures. It will be a once in a life time opportunity and I am so lucky as to do it for eight months. I hope to gain life experience, the ability to help people of all backgrounds and economic upbringings, social status and way of life. I also hope to expand my knowledge and medical experience that might not come from the general studies I am involved with, in the USA.
You have an open invitation to visit me wherever I will be living!!! I hope to see you soon.

The city where someone loves you...

Welcome to the greatest city in the world. The city where the girls smile at ya and the guys aren't trying to kill ya on the roads. The city where you can find a great cheese-steak, vegetarian vietnamese and korean bbq. It has culture, a china town, great bars, hot girls...What more can you ask for? Okay, now I am done giving props to my new city. I live in South Jersey, which is way cool. Bike trails, easy access to Philly, good food (I actually found a good Mexican restaurant, unlike NYC). I have just started General Medicine and so far it hasn't kicked my butt yet. Hopefully, it will kick it and hard...So I will learn alot. Come visit me in Cherry Hill we can get stoned and go to White Castle. I will be Harold, you can be Kumar.
