Danlí, HONDURAS

So, sorry for the long post intervals. I have been busy working!

So let me tell ya a little bit about Danlí. It is a small town in between many beautiful green mountains about two hours east by north east of the big capital city Tegucigalpa. It is a natural humidor and the weather doesn't change too much from perfect to perfect. This is where Cuban Cigars and local Hondurenian cigars are made.

The people are great! Very friendly, loving people who love saying hello and goodbye to you as you walk past them on the street. They marvel at me (probably because they haven't seen too many really white red heads before walking their streets); So I get a great deal of stairs and looks.

The food is not what I was thinking it would be. It consists of beans, rice, eggs, and some unknown meats. But, it isn't spicy! So I have been craving for spicy food for a while now. Although I love beans and rice and probably could live happily off all of this food, for the rest of my life! But I have found a good Mexican Restaurant in town which I frequent once a week with the other gringos at the clinic.

The people I am working with are very fun and very smart. Right now we have two doctors (one from Honduras and the other from Canada who came down here to research about diving and the effects of multiple dives in a day, and has been here for 10 years). There are also two pre-medical students (one from Dartmouth and the other from U of Maryland). So the latter two and myself are almost unseparateable. They are fluent in spanish and I can barely get by with my hellos and ciaos...

The house I live in is huge and the always have food for us and it is just across the street from the clinic I work at. But it often times doesn't have electricity, running water or hot water. We have a security guard/front desk receptionist that lives at the house and carries a gun with him at all times. So that is kinda weird! But it seems like everyone has a gun here.

Last weekend I went to Yoscaran, Honduras to climb Montserrat Mountain. It was gorgeous and totally pristine! We hiked up to above the clouds and ate a PP and J sandwich. That was fun!! Yoscaran is the first town to get electricity in Honduras and it is the place they made the Hondurenian Rum, but we decided that they would have good chinese food and opted for that.

Tegucigalpa, HONDURAS

HELLO from down south. I arrived and I am GREAT. The weather is perfect and I am sitting pretty in this great lush valley. Honduras is like one big mountain range and you couldnt believe how awesome it feels to be here!

I think this is going to be a good trip. On my way here I got to see Ex VP Al Gore in the airport (it took me a little time to figure out who he was). Then I got bumped to business class. THat was great!

I am surrounded by everything American. We got Dunkin Donuts, Churches, Wendys, Burger King, TGIF, Applebees all over. So I wont be hurting for nasty fast food.

I also get a keyboard that has this on it Ñ....yeah, who has that back home.jk
